GCPS Board of Education Names NEW Superintendent

 

The Granville County Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Stan Winborne as the new Superintendent of Granville County Public Schools, effective July 1, 2023. Dr. Winborne will succeed Dr. Alisa McLean as Superintendent, who is retiring after 30 years as an educator in North Carolina.

Dr. Winborne currently serves as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and Student Services for Granville County Public Schools.  He has also served as Assistant Superintendent and Executive Director of Operations and Human Resources as well as Director of Secondary Schools & Career and Technical Education. For the past 13 years, he has concurrently served as Public Information Officer In 1996, Dr. Winborne began his twenty-seven year career in education with Granville County Public Schools as its first and only English as a Second Language teacher, and served as a teacher for 10 years before moving into an administrative role.

As a graduate from Tulane University, Dr. Winborne earned a Bachelor of Arts dual degree in Spanish and International Relations. He received his Master’s degree in Language Education from Indiana University, an Education Specialist degree from George Washington University, and his Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

 

Dr. Winborne resides in Granville County with his lovely wife, Marcy, who teaches at J.F. Webb High School in the CTE Department.  Together, they have four children; two of which graduated from J.F. Webb High School, Danica and Adrianna, and two currently enrolled at Granville Early College High School, Sofia and Brodie.

Dr. Winborne is a member of a variety of educational organizations like NCASCD, NCASA and NCSPRA.  He is also a member of the Oxford Rotary Club.

Mrs. Glenda Williams, Board Chairwoman said, “The Board believes that Dr. Winborne has the experience and leadership skills to provide continuity and innovation for our school system as we work to achieve the goals of our long-range Strategic Plan. In addition to his professional qualifications and experience in different administrative roles, Dr. Winborne has a proven track record of accomplishments. That experience, knowledge of our school system, and his support for teachers and staff make him uniquely qualified for the Superintendency.  His love of students and his dedication to improving academic outcomes for all students is always at the forefront of his work. The Board is very excited to have Dr. Stan Winborne as our next Superintendent of Granville County Public Schools.”
