GCPS’s signature event, the “Evening of Excellence'', was held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the South Granville High School auditorium in front of throngs of cheering parents, family and community members in an upbeat and exciting program.
The two-part program this year recognized more than 300 GCPS students who have earned ‘straight A’s’ since the beginning of the year, as well as two “Gold Star” student recipients from each school who demonstrated overall excellence in academics, character, extra curricular activities, and service to others.
Combined with these student recognitions, members of the four Superintendent Advisory Councils (Student, Parents, Teachers, Principals), the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Summit participants, and all categories of employees of the year were recognized.
The recipients for each of the 2023 ‘Employee of the year’ category are:

The 2023-2024 Granville County Public Schools Teacher of the Year is:
LaKecia Bullock, Wilton Elementary School
1st Runner Up - Bethany Young, Granville Academy
2nd Runner Up - Emily Cofield, Granville Early College High School
Ms. Bullock was presented with her trophy, flowers, and received a check for $1000 on behalf of the Granville Ed Foundation. Each of the runners up were honored with a plaque and $500 on behalf of the Granville Ed Foundation.
Superintendent McLean offered her thoughts on the announcement, stating, “We are sure that Ms. Bullock will be a shining star among the others recognized across the country for this top honor. We are proud of her and all she represents. It was a wonderful night of celebrating excellence for our students, staff and our school district. Congratulations to everyone who was recognized!”
Board Chairman Williams also shared her praise, stating, “I am so proud of all of these teachers and the dedication and love they have for their students. I know that Ms. Bullock will represent our district well in this coming year as a true ambassador for our county and the profession itself. Also a huge congratulations to all of our straight A students for their achievement. We are proud of you!”
