Granville County Receives $25,000 Grant from Duke Energy Foundation to Support Storm Preparedness Efforts

GRANVILLE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: Duke Energy Foundation has awarded Granville County Emergency Management a $25,000 grant to support its preparations for this year's storm season. The grant will help Emergency Management fund radios for use during natural disaster emergency shelter activations. Radios will also be used to coordinate Point of Distribution (POD) and County Receiving and Distribution Point (CRDP) operations.

"With natural and manmade disasters causing significant challenges across the state in recent years, effective communication remains one of the most critical factors in ensuring a successful response,” said Emergency Management Director Jason Reavis. “We are deeply grateful to the Duke Energy Foundation for providing grants that help communities like ours overcome these obstacles. This grant will enhance our ability to maintain clear and reliable communication with our shelters during activations, ultimately improving safety and coordination when it matters most."

This grant is part of Duke Energy’s ongoing commitment to helping communities build strong emergency response networks and equip themselves with the resources they need to be prepared for storm season.

“Last storm season underscored the resilience of our North Carolina communities. Proactive collaboration with local emergency response organizations is necessary to ensure that communities are prepared to maintain that resilience," said Kendal Bowman, Duke Energy's North Carolina president. "We are committed to helping equip our growing state with the tools necessary to stay safe during the upcoming storm season.”

Duke Energy Foundation has supported more than 100 local emergency response organizations during the past five years with more than $1.8 million in grant funding to advance storm preparedness in North Carolina.
