Granville Health System Announces 2024 3rd Quarter DAISY Award

OXFORD, NC, November 11, 2024 – Granville Health System has announced its third quarter winner of the DAISY award. Megan Kelley, RN was awarded The DAISY Award® on November 6, 2024. Megan, a nurse in our Women’s Services department, was nominated for the DAISY Award by a fellow nurse.

Megan took care of a young first-time mother as she was being scheduled for an induction. The patient was very nervous about an induction as she had a birth plan in place. Megan was comforting, patient, and reassuring during the induction process. Megan remained at her side until the sweet baby boy was welcomed into this world. Megan went above and beyond to care for this patient while trying to honor her birth plan wishes. With Megan’s assistance she was able to achieve her goal of a vaginal delivery without an epidural, and she was also able to delay cord clamping and do initial skin to skin with her sweet baby. Megan did an outstanding job caring for this patient. The patient shared how grateful she was to have Megan and the rest of the team for her delivery. She stated, “I am so glad we chose Granville L&D. If we have more children in the future, I will definitely be back and I hope Megan will be there. Thank you to all of my care team.”

The Award is part of The DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize nurses for the extraordinary, compassionate care they provide patients and families every day. Granville Health System is among many healthcare organizations participating in The DAISY Award program.

“It is my honor to present this well-deserved DAISY Award to Megan,” said Ann Marie Holtzman-Wheeler, Chief Nursing Officer, Granville Health System. “Her unwavering dedication to providing compassionate nursing care shines brightly, and we deeply appreciate her tireless efforts and commitment to the communities we serve, and the patients entrusted to our care.”

Nurses are nominated by patients, families, and colleagues from Granville Health System. To submit an online nomination form, visit https://ghshospital.org/daisyaward or visit the GHS website at www.ghsHospital.org.

Recreation Mini-Grant Call for Applications

GRANVILLE COUNTY PARKS, GREENWAYS, AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The Granville County Parks, Greenways, and Recreation Advisory Committee will begin accepting applications for its 2025-2026 Recreation Mini Grant program on December 1, 2024. The grant application period will run through January 31, 2025.

Eligible entities include Granville County local government entities that do not have an established recreation department/staff (maximum available funding per application is $20,000) and registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations within Granville County (maximum available funding per application is $10,000).

These grant funds are used to facilitate the development and support of active and passive recreation and leisure activities for County residents. “The funding helps further the County’s reach in providing recreational amenities to a broad spectrum of residents, particularly in areas of the county that are underserved or those that have not received prior funding,” stated Deputy County Manager Korena Weichel. “The Parks, Greenways, and Recreation Advisory Committee is grateful to the County Board of Commissioners for continuing to provide funding for this important program over the past several years.”

Past projects funded by County mini grants include playground equipment at Jack Day Community Park (Stem), facility improvements (South Granville High School), picnic shelter (Grassy Creek Community Center), benches (Butner Community Association), and many, many more. Signs are erected at project sites to inform residents that their county tax dollars helped provide the amenities. Program guidelines and application are available for download on the County website at www.granvillecounty.org/minigrant. Printed copies may also be obtained from the Granville County Planning Office located at 122 Williamsboro Street, Oxford.

All applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm on January 31, 2025. Complete submission requirements and instructions are included in the program guidelines.
